Avonbourne’s 6 Week Community Mural Project

For four weeks, 4 students from Avonbourne school in Bournemouth visited MBN ARTS, to take part in a range of graffiti and street art workshops. This saw them explore all aspects of the artform, from learning the skill sets and techniques, the pathways and topics within a subcultures, and research into relevant contemporary artists and their artworks.

These initial four weeks allowed the students to acquire the knowledge and skills, to inform and deliver a final outcome they would create for their local community. Through research and planning they conceptualised and realised their design approach, wanting to combine imagery paying homage to the aesthetics of the local community (beach, coast etc), its history (Mary Shelley, Frankenstein’s Monster), and it’s up and coming digital industry (the  pixilated digital wave).

The mural took two days to complete, with our coaches supporting each step of the way until it’s completion.  The girls took real ownership of this project, being involved in every stage of its development, and this dedication meant they created a really unique and appreciated mural for their community.
